Make Picking The Right Bicycle Easier

We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. It could be down to efforts to remain green, perhaps people want to save money on high gas prices, or maybe many people just want to get in shape! Whatever the reason, there are more cyclists on the road than ever. Perhaps you have been giving some thought to getting a bike yourself? If you have then there are several things you should look at when you do.

Cost is almost always a factor when trying to choose the right bike. You will also be thinking about where you plan on riding your bike, as well as how often you are going to ride, but before you think about any of that you are going to have to think about the cost.

The price ranges of good bikes go anywhere from the hundreds to the thousands. That doesn't mean all bicycles are going to cost that much, so don't worry; there is no reason why you can't find a great bicycle that is in your price range. You could check out bicycles that are being auctioned off and could save tons of money while getting the best bike for you.

What kind of add-ons must you have? Perhaps a basket to help you carry items will be helpful, should your bike be what you'll be using most. Will you ever carry a child on your bike? If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can safely support a baby seat. Do you think you'll ever tow anything behind the bike? You will have to get a bike that can support the trailer's weight.

You also need to acquire some safety gear. The new bicycle helmets look and feel nothing like the old bicycle helmets. Not only are they made to better protect you, but they are also made to appeal a bit more aesthetically. You should never, ever ride your bicycle unless you are wearing your helmet. You don't even realize how important this thing can be in saving your life.

It wouldn't hurt to also get some elbow and knee pads, and some wrist and ankle guards if you are going to take your bike off-road. Pants clips are another great investment, especially if you find are using your bike as your sole means of transportation. These things are little clips that clip the pants leg up so they don't get tangled in the chain or the gears. You will need to think about many different things when choosing a bike for them. The durability of a bike may be the most important thing depending on how you intend to use it. You may simply be looking for the bike least likely to malfunction because you rely on it to get around. For others, price is a major factor. Be sure to shop around before taking the final decision and parting with your cash. Don’t just buy the first bicycle that looks good—you could get stuck with a lemon!
